Fire in the sky: part two

Nearly shit my pants. I was walking to meet some friends by the Yarra near the Crowne Plaza. I had never been down there before, so was not aware of the torch towers. I was walking by when, POOOOOOFFFFFF!!! went the flame and I could feel it on the ground. Then I was excited by it. I managed to capture the show on my iPhone later in the night as the flame show apparently happens every 30 minutes. I could even feel the heat from the bridge where the video was filmed from.

Fire In the Sky!

So I was lounging on the sofa when I heard my neighbors outside yelling "what in the world is that" and "oh my god!" so I looked out the window and saw fire - so ran to the balcony for a better look outside and saw this - at first I was a bit freaked, thinking it was an airplane on fire about to crash as I'm next to the flight path and watch the jets fly over day and night from my sofa. Then it realized it looked more like a meteorite...not that I had ever seen one before, but I saw this one. I tried to get some video of it, but by the time I worked out what the hell I was doing with my iPad, it was gone, just like that. I took to the net to see if anyone else had seen the same thing and sure enough, within minutes there were posts all over the internet about the strange fireball in the sky. We later learned it was believed to be some Russian space junk that burned through the atmosphere. Either way, it was friggin cool.

check out some videos of it here
